Hurricane Laura Updates
Published on: August 27, 2020Hurricane Laura made landfall early morning on Thursday, August 27. Initial claim numbers are lower than anticipated; however, we are just beginning our assessment of the impact of this storm. We will begin sharing claim counts next week. Regardless of the number, we are here to serve our policyholders when they need us most.
Here are a few updates on our Laura response.
Policy Moratorium
The TWIA policy moratorium on new and increased coverage applications remains in effect. We will update our website once the TWIA General Manager determines Laura no longer threatens property within the designated catastrophe area of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association.
Claims
There are three ways TWIA policyholders can file a claim:
-
- Visit www.twia.org/laura, for fastest service
- TWIA policyholders and agents will need to register if using Claims Center for the first time
- Call TWIA’s 24-hour claims care center at (800) 788-8247
- Contact your agent
- Visit www.twia.org/laura, for fastest service
Please do not attempt to file claims by fax, email, or US mail as this may cause delays.
Additional Steps
The following steps were taken over the past week to help us serve impacted policyholders and agents. We are adjusting our plans as assessments on the ground come in and we coordinate with state and local officials.
- Staged adjusters to begin damage assessments
- Onboarded additional claims customer service personnel to help process claims
- Launched a dedicated Laura webpage to guide those affected by Laura with the following information:
- How to file a Hurricane Laura claim
- What to do after filing a claim
- Important things to know about making repairs
- Plans for a Mobile Claims Center, if necessary
- Expanded and optimized phone system to handle increased call volume
